A MESSAGE TO ALL OF THE PAST AND PRESENT TEACHERS
IN THE BALDWIN-WHITEHALL SCHOOL DISTRICT FROM THE PRESIDENT OF
THE BALDWIN-WHITEHALL FRIENDS OF THE THEATER ARTS
As one of the many hundreds of teachers who have dedicated their careers to the education and formation of young people in the Baldwin-Whitehall School District, you know first hand the important role of a teacher. The lessons you impart last a lifetime and are expressed in diverse and sometimes wonderfully surprising ways.
A fine example of an excellent teacher is the long-time choral director at Baldwin High School, Dr. Regis V. Shalley. From 1954 to 1981, he stirred in the musical souls of his students, a passion for making great music. Many of his former students continue to share their talents and the skills they developed under Dr. Shalley in choirs and choruses across the country.
A few years ago, Kris Tranter, Baldwin High School's current choral director, invited Dr. Shalley to serve as a guest conductor at a Baldwin Highlander Choir/Baldwinaires concert. To demonstrate the fondness of their memories of the Baldwin Highlander Choir, Baldwinaires, Boys Glee Club and Girls Glee Clubs, Dr. Shalley's former students traveled from all over Pennsylvania and several other states to be there.
Now, his former students are eager to raise $175,000 needed to make certain improvements to the Baldwin High School Auditorium and to name that soon-to-be-renovated Auditorium in his honor. Dr. Shalleys story illustrates the power and influence that teachers have over their students and why we are pursuing this goal.
We, the members of the Baldwin-Whitehall Friends of the Theatre Arts who are spearheading this effort, believe that naming the Baldwin High School Auditorium in honor of Dr. Regis Shalley will be a tribute to all teachers and the teaching profession. That said, we are encouraging every past and present teacher in the Baldwin-Whitehall School District to support the Rally for Shalley Campaign.
Sincerely,
Jim Nowalk |
